In May 2014 Somerset based, borehole seismic technology innovation, design and manufacturing specialists Avalon Sciences Ltd, approached Satellite Creative to redesign their existing website.

New website design objectives

The brief Avalon Sciences Ltd gave to Satellite Creative was to:

  • Create a new website with a clear Avalon Sciences Ltd brand and a strong brand message.
  • Create an easy to navigate user interface, to improve the customer journey, with clear and concise copy ,focussed on key features and benefits of the companies product’s and services.
  • Raise the company profile and reiterate their expertise in a specialist market.
  • Create a “flat design”, with a series of customised icons and using large images were applicable.
  • Create a footer that showcases the international nature of the business
  • Create a responsive design, for clients using the website on their tablets or mobile phone out in the field.

The web design process

Stage 1 – understanding the web design brief

The Satellite Creative web design team created site map and wireframes optimising the various user journeys, that were identified by the client, and how the client expected users to interact with the new website design.

Stage 2 – creating the style guide and designing the website

Satellite Creative created a series of designs built around the structure of the wireframe, for desktop, tablet and mobile, using the brand guidelines, with clear brand positioning and use of the companies primary colour. The Satellite Creative graphic design team created a series of icons for the website, using symbols users would instantly recognise to represent action points.

Stage 3 – the development of the website

With the final design approved by Avalon Sciences Ltd, the Satellite Creative web team created the fully responsive website.
